Our Modified Self-Defence program is designed specifically for adults who are new to physical activity, managing chronic pain or injury, or who require movement adaptations. This class offers a supportive and inclusive environment where participants can learn essential self-defence skills while building strength, confidence, and body awareness—at their own pace.

Each class is thoughtfully structured to be both practical and accessible:

  • Safety Chat: We begin each session with a conversation around self-defence concepts—like applicable self-defence laws, recognizing and avoiding unsafe situations, and using verbal strategies to stay safe. These discussions build mental readiness and confidence in everyday scenarios.
  • Gentle Warm-Up: A low-impact warm-up helps participants ease into movement, improve mobility, and connect with their bodies in a way that feels safe and comfortable.
  • Accessible Fitness: We incorporate light, adaptive fitness activities to gently improve strength, endurance, and coordination. Movements are easily modified to suit individual needs and limitations—whether seated, standing, or somewhere in between.
  • Skills & Drills: Self-defence techniques are taught with care and flexibility, focusing on practical application in a way that respects physical limitations. Through guided practice, participants learn how to use their voice, body, and awareness to protect themselves effectively.

At Empowered Defence Centre, we believe everyone deserves the tools to feel safe and empowered—regardless of age, ability, or fitness level. This program is a welcoming space to build personal strength, learn valuable skills, and move with confidence—your way.

Note: this program exists outside of our usual Level-based training system in order to accommodate diverse needs. Students are always welcome to transition to the Level-based system if they decide they are ready for a new challenge!

Monthly Plan

Monthly Plans start on the 1st of each calendar month and entitles you to twice-a-week classes, includes a free uniform t-shirt with your first month ($25 value), access to Open Gym times, and a 10% discount on all of our periphery programs (camps, seminars, workshops).

Drop-In Passes

If you want to take things day-by-day, you are welcome to purchase drop-in passes for just the classes you are able to attend.

You will still require a uniform shirt, which can be purchased for $25 plus tax, and you are welcome to utilize our open gym times at a rate of $5 plus tax per visit.
